2007/2008 Program Schedule
All programs are held at at Les Frères Taix restaurant in Echo Park (click here to map it) unless otherwise noted.
- Saturday, September 15, 2007 – No Thursday evening meeting this month. Instead, we will have a special Saturday morning “drive by” bus tour of architectural and historic homes from Echo Park to Silver Lake to Los Feliz conducted by local realtor and Antiquarian co-president, Richard Stanley. We will not be entering houses, just sightseeing past some of the hidden treasures of Los Angeles’s Golden Age of domestic architecture. Meet at Freres Taix parking lot at 10 AM sharp; return to Freres Taix for lunch about noon. There will be an extra charge for the cost of the bus—to be determined by the number of participants—in addition to the usual $25 food charge. Early registration recommended.
- October 11, 2007 – Collecting swords by Pat Pafford.
- November 8, 2007 – Collecting vintage newspaper front pages by Alan Pollack.
- December 13, 2007 – Christmas Party: Location to be determined.
- January 10, 2008 – Author and Los Angeles Magazine editor, Chris Nichols, will chat with us about his new book on Wayne McAllister and his “Leisure Architecture”. Best known for his landmark Las Vegas and coffee shop projects (think the Sands hotel in Vegas or Bob’s Big Boy in Toluca Lake), McAllister was a personal friend of the author. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.
- February 14, 2008 – 20th Century photography chat by Richard Stanley.
- March 13, 2008 – Eric Lynxwiler – Neon art of L.A. Eric will join us again, this time with a chat about the neon art of Los Angeles and the collection of our local Museum of Neon Art (MONA).
- April 10, 2008 – TBA
- May 8, 2008 – TBA
- June 12, 2008 – Adobe dinner. Our most popular event of the year is a specially catered dinner at the historic Andres Pico Adobe in the San Fernando Valley. Dinner is served in the adobe's patio, under the stars. An illustrated lecture on early California history follows. The adobe is open to be toured, as well.
- July 10, 2008 – Annual Show and Tell - Members participate in a personal "show and tell" with items from their collections. This year’s topic: Bring a collectible to share with the group.
